the Language of Termites
It occurred to me when I sat down to write this that the Language of Termites might
be a pop band. I wanted some sort of cool hyphen-rock or witty
portmanteau to use in the description but I’m coming up short and I think that’s
ok. More than anything, what is important to understand about the
Language of Termites is the narrative of the group. Between conception,
writing, recording and the various other tasks that were woven together to make
this happen the members of Termites spanned four continents, various states and
a handful of cities. Recordings were passed via dial-up connections
in Romania and Egypt; studio time was borrowed in Denver; home recording rigs were
constructed in DC; this description is being written from Baghdad, and the members
never once found themselves all in the same room at the same time. The
time it has taken to make this happen has also played a role. Inevitably,
the three years brought more than their fair share of life altering events. The
geography and chronology certainly translate on the recordings and while it would
have been easier for all of us to be in the same place at the same time, the music
would have suffered. The music is sometimes ethereal, sometimes
frantic and at times even playful but it is all a reflection of the story that
created the band.

the band
Other very important contributors to this project were Johnny Wohlfahrt (nervesandgel), Travis Stevens (Mutton, Wilhelm JR), Cody Robinson (Agent Minor), and David Wang.
These guys not only provided important parts to the album but were also key in providing someone locally (with respect to Farrell and Victor) to bounce ideas off of.
